The Accounting Supervisor I – Financial Reporting is responsible for ensuring Vanderbilt’s adherence to GAAP and the accurate reporting of financial statements and disclosures to corporate accounting, regulatory authorities, external auditors, and 3rd party financial statement users.
Supervising Team
- Supervises the Financial Reporting Team
- Intermediate Accountant
- Senior Accountant
- Provides leadership and actively mentors team members on development
- Drives change by analyzing current processes and challenging the methods used to accomplish goals and continuously seeking ways to improve
- Supports team members with guidance and knowledge and maintains an open atmosphere where team members are motivated to reach their full potential
- Determines timelines for the Financial Reporting Team and maintains flexibility to accommodate for changes in prioritization of everyday tasks and special projects
- Coordinates the research of accounting pronouncements and regulations to ensure entity is in compliance
- Helps ensure the culture of the department is defined, understood, effective and fosters professional growth
- Communicates relevant updates to the team to ensure that all are fully informed of company related issues, changes, or actions
- Continually works on own leadership development
Financial Reporting Management
- Oversees the preparation and review of all accounting activities related to monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure entity is in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements
- Examines accounting records, financials statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards
- Provides guidance to team members for licensing requests that support state and federal regulatory reporting requirements
- Reviews 3rd party financial statement review requests
HR/Personnel Responsibilities
- Oversees hiring processes, coaching and development, team building, and overall success of the Financial Reporting Team
- Develops current team members through regular team training, one-on-one meetings that provide constructive feedback, and planning professional goals by setting framework for career growth
- Completes annual performance development conversations (PDCs) with team members, evaluates job performance, and creates yearly plan to ensure success of team members
- Creates and maintains job descriptions
Cross Team Collaboration/Relationship Building
- Cultivate relationships with peers in all departments supported to build trust and aid business objectives
- Works with various company departments to address process gaps
- Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration across departments, for example hosting weekly training sessions and facilitating job shadows
- Partners and maintains strong communications with management and other leaders within and outside of the department

QUALIFICATIONS
- College degree or advanced degree required in accounting or finance.
- Advance Degree a plus
- CPA a plus
- Five years of experience in accounting related field.
- Advanced Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- Must be comfortable with various forms of communication including but not limited to email, Teams, Zoom, and over the phone.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information at all times.
- Will work in a state-of-the-art indoor temperature controlled, sealed window office environment.
