Job Summary:

The General Construction Manager is responsible for managing construction projects, including planning, coordinating, and supervising all aspects of construction operations. They work closely with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure the successful completion of projects. The role requires strong leadership, project management skills, and a deep understanding of construction processes, safety regulations, and industry standards.


Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, project managers, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure smooth execution of projects.
  • Establish project goals, priorities, and milestones to ensure successful project completion.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring that costs are kept within established limits.
  • Approve purchases and expenses related to construction materials and equipment.
  • Monitor and report on financial performance, including labor and material costs, and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensure all work is completed to the highest quality standards and in compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Oversee the enforcement of safety protocols and regulations to minimize workplace accidents and ensure a safe working environment. This includes ensuring that personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn and that work is carried out safely.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor work progress and quality, resolving issues as they arise.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the client and the construction team.
  • Provide regular updates to clients on project status, including progress, budget, and any potential challenges.
  • Address and resolve client concerns or issues promptly and professionally   
  • Ensure resources are utilized efficiently, avoiding delays or shortages.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with relevant local, state, and federal laws, including building codes, zoning laws, and environmental regulations.
  • Obtain necessary permits and approvals for construction activities.
  • Identify potential risks to project timelines, costs, and quality, and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
  • Implement risk management practices to minimize disruption during the construction process.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and progress reports.
  • Provide regular reports to upper management, clients, and stakeholders on project performance.
  • Ensures the project complies with all local, state, and federal construction regulations, building codes, and environmental guidelines.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Construction Manager certification by the American Institute of Constructors or Construction Management Association of America preferred
  • Certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.

Experience

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in construction management or a related field.
  • Experience managing large or complex commercial and/or residential construction projects.
