Description

Job Title: Heavy Equipment Foreman

Department: Striping

Job Summary:

As a Heavy Equipment Foreman, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of heavy equipment within a construction, mining, or industrial setting. Other duties include but are not limited to, enforcing Company standards and procedures, ensuring overall operational efficiencies, customer service, oversight of the quality of service provided, and capacity planning. Engages and communicates effectively with TXDOT Inspectors, contractors, and engineers on-site. You will ensure quality standards are met, and all equipment and materials are available on-site at all times.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for directing and managing trades, sub-contractors, on-site work equipment, and visitors to maximize efficiency, production, and safety
  • Coordinate and maintain construction schedules to ensure projects are being completed on time and according to drawings and specs
  • Create schedules for workers and subcontractors
  • Create cost estimates for labor, supplies, materials, and other project costs
  • Make changes in the operation as necessary to best meet construction deadlines

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the daily work activities, job site organization, reading of plans, determine layout placement, and monitor quality control
  • Verify measurements, quantities, grades, material, and trucking requirements to ensure compliance with the contract documents and job sheets
  • Organize job site goals, timelines, and meet production and materials budgets
  • Read and relay job information from the plans, work orders, and contracts to other crew members.
  • Touring job sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules, to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment
  • Prepare daily time cards and field diaries
  • Perform other labor/operator related tasks as necessary in assisting crew with job completion
  • Enforces the organization’s safety policies in accordance with OSHA and also by establishing a climate that emphasizes safety on the job for the entirety of the project
  • Liaising with inspection authorities regarding approvals

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and PPE procedures
  • Ability to conduct accident investigations and safety inspections
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
  • Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents in English
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry
  • Proficient Microsoft Office productivity suite
  • Experience in managing large or multiple facilities

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of related experience required
  • Proficient with scheduling software, and CAE and CAD applications
  • Proficient with the reading CAD or design documents and diagram
  • Proficient with taking and uploading digital photographs
  • Blueprint knowledge
  • Experience operating a Longliner
  • Able to read TXDOT, engineer, and other plans

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
  • Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary
  • Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

Special Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
  • Valid state driver's license
