Description

The Intern Project Engineer provides support to the project management team in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects within the Building Group division. This role is designed to give hands-on experience in various aspects of construction project management, including scheduling, cost control, quality assurance, and communication with stakeholders. The Intern Project Engineer will assist in ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.



Qualifications

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of project schedules, ensuring that milestones are tracked and deadlines are met.
  • Help in the preparation of project documentation, including submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), and change orders.
  • Participate in project meetings, taking notes, and preparing minutes for distribution to the team.
  • Assist in the review of invoices and payment applications from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contract terms
  • Help monitor project financial performance and report any variances to the project manager.
  • Assist in the implementation of quality control procedures, ensuring that all work meets the project’s specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct site inspections under the guidance of senior engineers to verify that work is performed according to the plans and specifications.
  • Support the identification and resolution of any quality issues, coordinating with subcontractors and the project team as needed.
  • Promote a safe work environment by assisting in the enforcement of safety protocols and procedures on the job site.
  • Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks, documenting attendance and discussing safety concerns.
  • Assist in coordinating the delivery of materials and equipment to the job site, ensuring that schedules are adhered to.
  • Help manage project documentation, ensuring that all records are properly maintained and accessible.
  • Assist in the review of construction drawings and specifications, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide technical support to the project team, helping to resolve any issues that arise during construction.
  • Take advantage of opportunities to learn from experienced professionals within the company, gaining knowledge in project management, construction techniques, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance technical and professional skills.
  • Seek feedback from supervisors and peers to improve performance and develop competencies.
  • Regular attendance required according to company policy to ensure crew can operate at normal efficiency level.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of construction processes and terminology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with project management software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and demonstrate initiative.

Education and Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field. A strong academic record is preferred.
  • Previous internships or experience in the construction industry is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, including ground in varying weather conditions.
  • Regularly sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/workday.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on frequent basis.
  • Occasionally climb stairs or ladders, etc.
  • Regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Exposure to the outdoor environment with machinery/equipment in the surrounding area.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment is required, including but not limited to steel-toe shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
  • Able to safely operate a personal and/or company motor vehicle.
