A Brief Overview
The Landscaping Superintendent reports to the Vice President of Construction for Hunt Communities GP, LLC. Coordinates, oversees, and supervises all landscaping and irrigation construction activities for all Hunt Communities projects, including residential subdivisions, parks, roadways, and amenity centers.
What you will do
- Becomes familiar with each project's peculiarities and offers practical advice pertaining to each construction job to the Vice President of Construction.
- Reviews plans and gives meaningful value engineering comments to the Vice President of Construction to review and give comments to the landscape architect/civil engineer.
- Communicates with subcontractors to familiarize them with project schedules, construction scope of work and methods, company procedures and policies, and quality standards.
- Reviews and recommends changes to methods, schedules, procedures, and improvements, where practical, for the respective project to the Vice President of Construction.
- Works with City / County / MUD on project inspection, punch list correction, and timely acceptance by the respective authority.
- As directed, assists the Vice President of Construction with El Paso Water, El Paso Electric, Texas Gas, AT&T, and Time Warner in acquiring each design and development agreement as required to get respective utilities under construction.
- Reviews all wet and dry utility designs to eliminate potential conflicts prior to construction and informs the Vice President of Construction of the findings.
- Ensures that all testing is conducted properly and that testing results are recorded.
- Maintains a close working relationship with the Vice President of Construction to ensure proper coordination of responsibilities for the project.
- Verifies all field directives through the Vice President of Construction before commencing with changes in scope, original design, and/or any other request of construction field personnel.
- Coordinates with the Vice President of Construction to ensure that the project is properly staffed in order to meet project schedules.
- Ensures proper paper flow and information reporting to the Vice President of Construction and the corporate office. Documents deliveries, field dimensions, and any other correspondence as directed.
- Monitors and provides project schedule updates to the Vice President of Construction, tracking the respective project construction from start to finish.
- Reviews, acquires field measurements, and submits documentation required for subcontractor requisitions to the Vice President of Construction for payment. Ensures that all charges for extras are reasonable and that work is properly executed.
- Maintains accurate records on each job, identifying all conditions such as weather, job changes, material, soil and rock, surface water, and any other item that influences the project schedule, completion date, and costs.
- Ensures timely job close-out and punch list completion.
- Conducts weekly meetings with all subcontractor representatives on the project to schedule and coordinate activities for the week.
- Ensures that the company's and OSHA's safety programs/requirements are consistently enforced on the project. Conducts safety meetings on the project as needed.
- Ensures that company quality standards are maintained.
- Creates and maintains as-built drawings/documents that document all changes in work and drawings.
- Verifies delivery of company purchase materials as to quantity, condition, and compliance with purchase order or agreement.
- Provides on-site supervision.
- Clarifies drawings, dimensions, and discrepancies.
- Coordinates interfacing of various trades to prevent obstruction or phasing problems.
- Suggests installation methods.
- Provides quality standards and reject improper installations.
- Alerts Vice President of Construction of potential design problems or unforeseen site conditions.
- This position requires driving for the Company using either 1) a Company vehicle, at any frequency from Rarely to Constantly; or, 2) a Personal or Rental vehicle to conduct Company business more than 50% of the time to perform work duties.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred. Preferred or
- 4-6 years of professional experience, preferably in the landscaping/irrigation construction management industry with an understanding of horizontal construction activities, surveying, trees/shrubs and irrigation systems. Required and
- Must have management experience or have significant potential to take on management responsibilities with confidence, and will bring maturity and dedication to the position. Required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
