We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team supporting the Savannah River Site! This position is full-time and will be based out of Aiken, South Carolina.
Responsibilities
Assess system health, prepare/review design changes, determine replacements for obsolete parts, troubleshoot system equipment, review work packages, support/resolve installation technical issues.
Design and manage the systems that store and transfer nuclear fuel waste to be processed.
Manage product scope, design, and documentation package for nuclear waste transfer equipment.
Create documentation to operate transfer equipment.
Troubleshoot transfer problems and devise creative solutions.
Assume technical responsibility for one or more phases of a program and/or ownership for unit operations within processing facilities.
Collaborate with colleagues to provide innovative improvements to the existing processes.
Specific job responsibilities many involve the following assignments: project engineering support, facility engineering support, process flow sheet analysis and development, procurement requirements and specifications development, technical calculations and reviews, design reviews, safety analysis development, and commercial grade dedication.
Perform comprehensive engineering solutions to broadly defined and moderately complex activities.
Perform studies, development, testing and analysis of designs, processes and/or procedures as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Explore approaches and recommend improvements under moderate guidance from Manager.
Collaborate with facility/department colleagues.
Apply training of SRMC and specific department systems, methodologies, and requirements for accomplishing tasks. Including but not limited to appropriate use of the proper tools and protective equipment required to complete tasks.
May provide guidance and/or informal mentoring to new engineers.
May present/explain technical information to members of team, department, or facility.
Requirements
Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience.
Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
Desired Skills
Knowledge of advanced engineering principles and practices to develop appropriate outputs.
Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards.
Flexibility and adaptability to work in a changing environment with multiple demands and priorities.
Good organizational and communication skills. Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Sound technical knowledge base of discipline’s standard concepts, principles, and techniques with the ability to apply formal training.

The NNSA's Savannah River Site (SRS), located in Aiken, South Carolina, is responsible for supplying and processing tritium, a radioactive form of hydrogen that is a key component of nuclear weapons. SRS loads tritium and non-tritium reservoirs; processes reservoirs; and recycles, extracts, and enriches tritium; and also plays a key role in NNSA's nonproliferation missions (energy.gov).
