Description

Position Summary

As an Estimator for CEC, you will be responsible for managing the estimating take-off process from beginning to end and producing a comprehensive estimate for various types of commercial and industrial projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and take-offs for select trades.
  • Develop and prepare conceptual estimates using preliminary design documents and information.
  • Itemize trade specific scopes and prepare bid packages.
  • Complete accurate take-offs with Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets.
  • Prepare bids either from a conceptual stage, design assist or plan and specifications.
  • Overlay drawings for any changes in scope in Bluebeam.
  • Analyze bids and propose value engineer cost saving ideas.
  • Stay up to date on all ADA regulations.
  • Review vendors bill of materials and subcontractors scope letters for accuracy.
  • Prepare cost in Spreadsheets by recapitulating material, labor, indirect labor, subcontractors, general expense, equipment rental, quoted material, bid breakdowns and final pricing.
  • Prepare proposal letters and bid forms.
  • Participate in client scope review meetings.
  • Manage estimating processes and timelines to meet company objectives, both short and long term.
  • Communicate with customers to define the project scope, address deficiencies, negotiate pricing and build relationships.
  • Continuously follow up on all bid projects and accurately forecast future awards/probabilities.
  • Properly transfer awarded projects to operations team and perform buyouts when necessary.
  • Follow estimating procedures and guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective completion of projects.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • 1-year relevant experience or 3 years of experience as a Mechanical Estimator, preferably within CEC’s Core Market projects.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Must have a current Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • Must meet attendance standards and comply with late/absence notification procedures.
  • Must be able to pass drug and background check.
  • Alignment with company’s’ mission, vision, and values.
  • Proficient in Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Excellent listening skills and strong communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable; ability to work in a team environment and initiative to work alone
  • Ability to work flexible hours, if needed.

This job may work inside or outside with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures and weather elements in restricted or confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces. This job may have exposure to working on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other exposures typical of heavy construction. This job also operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

  1. Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing reaching, bending crawling, standing, or stretching.
  2. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Move about on the feet regularly. Sit for extended periods of time.
  3. Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  4. May require travel.
  5. Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  6. Talk and hear, ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
  7. Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  8. Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected. Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
  9. Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
  10. Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
