Mesa Associates, Inc. seeks a Mechanical Installation Audit Specialist to support a major pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This role focuses on auditing, verifying, and documenting precision installation of mechanical equipment (primarily rotating equipment such as horizontal pumps) to ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, and reliability expectations. The position is hands-on, field-based, and well-suited for experienced professionals or retirees seeking meaningful, project-focused work without long-term supervisory burden.

Travel and Work Schedule: Work is primarily onsite near Indianapolis, IN. Travel patterns may vary by project phase and could include full-time onsite work, week-at-a-time assignments, or multi-week rotations with periodic return home. Flexibility is key.

What We’re Looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-college experience in mechanical equipment installation, inspection, field engineering, or reliability-focused roles.
  • Strong understanding of rotating equipment installation principles and precision alignment concepts.
  • Experience working in regulated industrial environments (pharmaceutical, power, chemical, nuclear, or similar).
  • OSHA 10 certification required (OSHA 30 preferred or ability to obtain).
  • Willingness and ability to work in a field-based environment.

Preferred experience

• Experience auditing or verifying installation work performed by contractors.
• Familiarity with laser alignment tools, machinist levels, and calibrated torque tools.
• Strong documentation discipline and attention to detail.
• Experience supporting equipment turnover, commissioning, or pre-startup readiness.

What You’ll Do

  • Audit mechanical equipment installations for compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and installation procedures.
  • Verify baseplate leveling, foundation readiness, alignment conditions, and grouting readiness prior to installation milestones.
  • Validate post-grouting conditions, final alignment results, torque application, and corrective actions as required.
  • Confirm installations meet applicable industry standards (e.g., API 686) and site-specific requirements.
  • Observe and verify safe work practices including LOTO, PPE usage, and zero-energy verification.
  • Review, verify, and organize installation documentation including checklists, alignment reports, and torque records.
  • Interface professionally with client representatives, contractors, and Mesa leadership.
