New Construction Start-Up Technician

Position Summary:
The New Construction Start-Up Technician plays a key role in Houk’s final quality control process before a home closes. This technician is responsible for completing punch work and performing the first startup and performance verification of HVAC systems installed in new construction homes. The role ensures systems are operating correctly, properly documented, and ready for the homeowner at closing.

Punch Work & Closeout Responsibilities:
•    Work through punch list items on completed new construction HVAC installations.
•    Address items identified by Houk supervisors, inspection processes, and direct manager.
•    Perform duct repairs, connect venting, sealing, grille/register adjustments, thermostat corrections.
•    Verify drain pans, plenums, and return boxes are properly installed.
•    Perform visual and functional checks to confirm installations meet Houk quality standards.

New Construction System Startups
•    Perform first power-up startup of HVAC systems in newly constructed homes.
•    Verify refrigerant charge, airflow, temperature differentials, thermostat operation, and safety controls.
•    Confirm equipment installation matches design specifications and manufacturer requirements.
•    Identify and resolve startup issues prior to closing when possible.
•    Escalate issues requiring additional support to the supervisor or direct manager.

Documentation & System Verification:
•    Document startup results in Houk’s Builder Connect measurements including, serial numbers, photos, and notes.
•    Maintain records of punch items addressed on each home.
•    Close out jobs with full documentation before leaving the site.
 

Required Qualifications:
•    High school diploma or GED
•    2+ years HVAC experience in installation, service, or new construction
•    EPA Section 608 Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
•    Valid Texas driver’s license with clean driving record
•    Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in attics, crawl spaces, and rooftops
