Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define the scope of technical programs and develop high-quality, effective solutions to complex or unconventional challenges. Apply innovative thinking to meet company, industry, and regulatory requirements using site systems to deliver quality, timely, and cost-efficient results.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals on related tasks and projects.

  • Apply deep expertise in a specialized field or broad-based experience across multiple technical disciplines to resolve complex engineering problems.

  • Incorporate advanced technical practices and address multifaceted requirements, including unique materials, challenging processes, and intricate coordination needs, into program planning and execution.

  • Lead the identification and development of innovative solutions to technical challenges and be recognized as a subject matter expert within your discipline.

  • Provide direction and thought leadership across departmental boundaries, supporting programs that explore new methods and apply existing engineering or scientific principles in novel ways.

  • Evaluate program results and develop reports and actionable recommendations based on findings.

  • Identify and propose enhancements where current technologies or methods are inadequate.

  • Stay informed on technological advancements relevant to your field and apply this knowledge to improve project outcomes.

  • Prepare and manage technical task plans including budgets, schedules, and staffing needs.

  • Monitor project progress and expenditures, ensure quality assurance, and drive continuous improvement in all deliverables.

  • Communicate results, progress, and objectives clearly through written reports and verbal briefings to customers, colleagues, and management.

  • Occasionally prepare technical reports for external publication.

  • Actively contribute to professional development in the field by participating in and leading local technical societies.

  • Demonstrate creativity through patent disclosures, technical problem solving, engineering reports, and published articles.

Work Schedule

  • A 40-hour workweek is expected. SRNS offers various schedules, including:

    • 5/8s: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week

    • 4/10s: 10 hours per day, 4 days per week

    • 9/80s: 9 hours per day, alternating 5 and 4-day weeks

  • A 30-minute lunch break is included in each workday.

  • Overtime may be required to meet critical deadlines and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.


Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering discipline and at least 5 years of experience, OR

  • M.S. degree and 8+ years of experience, OR

  • B.S. degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience

Technical Expertise

  • Extensive knowledge of air permitting regulations and compliance requirements

  • Required experience with air dispersion modeling

  • Strong understanding of 40 CFR Part 61, Subpart H—National Emission Standards for Emissions of Radionuclides Other Than Radon From Department of Energy Facilities

Other Requirements

Security Clearance

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) “Q” security clearance

  • Subcontractor must have an active eFOCI registration and approved Facility Level Clearance with DOE/NNSA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DOE “L” or “Q” clearance within the past two (2) years preferred

  • Experience with Title V Operating Permit development and submittal

  • In-depth knowledge of ANSI/HPS N13.1-1999: Sampling and Monitoring Releases of Airborne Radioactive Substances from the Stacks and Ducts of Nuclear Facilities
