Job Title: Commercial Construction Project Engineer

Overview: As a Commercial Construction Project Engineer, you will be a vital part of the project management team, supporting the successful execution of commercial construction projects from inception to completion. You will collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Your role will involve coordinating various project activities, managing documentation, and ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning and Coordination: Assist in the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets. Coordinate project activities with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless project execution. Monitor project progress and identify potential delays or issues, providing solutions to keep the project on track.

  2. Technical Support and Documentation: Review project drawings, specifications, and technical documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements. Prepare and maintain project documentation, including submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), change orders, and meeting minutes. Ensure all project documentation is organized and up-to-date.

  3. Quality Control and Assurance: Conduct regular site inspections to monitor construction activities and ensure compliance with design specifications, building codes, and quality standards. Identify and address any quality issues or deficiencies, working with the project team to implement corrective actions.

  4. Subcontractor and Supplier Management: Assist in the selection and management of subcontractors and suppliers. Coordinate and oversee subcontractor activities to ensure timely and quality performance. Review and approve subcontractor invoices and change orders.

  5. Cost Control and Budget Management: Monitor project expenses and track budget performance. Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and budget forecasts. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement value engineering strategies to optimize project costs.

  6. Safety and Compliance: Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on the construction site. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, codes, and standards. Conduct safety inspections and audits, and implement corrective actions as needed.

  7. Communication and Reporting: Facilitate effective communication among project stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and project managers. Prepare and present project status reports, progress updates, and other relevant information to project stakeholders.

  8. Problem Solving and Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve project-related issues and conflicts in a timely manner. Collaborate with the project team to develop and implement solutions that minimize project disruptions and delays.

  9. Project Closeout: Assist in the project closeout process, including final inspections, punch list completion, and documentation of as-built drawings. Ensure all project deliverables are completed and handed over to the client as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • Proven experience in commercial construction project engineering or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or equivalent.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse project teams.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy and quality in project documentation and execution.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing project challenges.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
  • Certification in Project Management (PMP) or Construction Management (CM) is a plus.
