Shimmick is actively seeking a highly motivated Safety Specialist for employment to be based in Soda Springs, ID.This challenging position will provide an excellent growth opportunity while improving the infrastructure of the city.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under direct supervision, performs basic and routine duties in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with the ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures.
  • Assists in monitoring hazards and diseases that could be present in the work area.
  • Works with others to investigate accidents, injuries and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.
  • Participates in recommending improvement in processes, design, procedures and equipment to minimize hazards.
  • Participates in employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs.
  • ES&H related professional certifications including, but not limited to the Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH), Certified Health Physicist (CHP), Certified Ergonomic Associate (CEA), and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certifications. Initial certifications are individual development technical achievements and can be accomplished by receiving the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) and/or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST).

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Environment, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry or a related applied science field or demonstrated equivilency of education and/or experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 30 certification or higher
  • Must be willing and able to work night or day shift.
  • Valid Driver's License is required
  • Must have the ability to climb ladders while maintaining three points of contact
  • Must have the ability to climb stairs that exceed 50 feet in height
