EDUCATION
High school education or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent or one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
On the job training serving as learner or trainee under the instruction of a qualified worker.
Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations and Industry Safety Best Practices.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of organization.
Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one setting to fellow employees.
Apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to act in a manner that would convey a congenial work environment - avoiding anger, belligerence, harassment, violence, nonchalance, controversy, or any other "unreasonable" activity considered by management to be counter-productive or adversarial to employee relations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Walking - Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances. Must be able to walk on various surfaces such as wet, rocky, uneven or shifting, concrete, or mud.
Sitting - Remaining in a seated position.
Climbing - Ascending or descending step ladders, caged ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
Talking - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.
Hearing - Perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than a 40db loss @ 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustment on machined parts.
Occasionally must carry (transport an object, usually holding it in the hands or arms or on the shoulder) an object weighing 25 lbs. for varying distance of 100 feet and may depend on location or work task.
Must make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures in width and/or length lines.
Frequently sitting with forward head and rounded back working at a desk.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. If the activities occur inside or outside in approximately equal amounts.
Extremes of Cold - Temperature below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
Extremes of Heat - Temperature above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
Wet: Contact with water or other liquids.
Noise: Either constant or intermittent, to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the amient noise level, marked distraction or possible injury to the sense of hearing.
Hazards: Must be able to work off the ground and at heights above grade.
Fumes: Smoky or vaporous exhalations, usually odorous, thrown off as the result of combustion or chemical reaction.
Odors: Noxious smells, either toxic or nontoxic.
Toxic conditions: Exposure to toxic dust, fumes, gases, vapors, mists, or liquids which cause general or localized disabling conditions as a result of inhalation or action on the skin.
Dust: Air filled with small particles of any kinds, such as textile dust, flour, wood, leather, feathers, etc., and inorganic dust, including silicia and asbestos, which make the workplace unpleasant or are the source of occupational diseases.
Poor Ventilation: Insufficient movement of air causing a feeling of suffocation, or exposure to drafts.
The worker is subject to oils. There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
May be required to wear respirator.
The worker is substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions such as in a plant setting.
Set Hours:
- Typically 9 - 12 hours per day
- Lunch: 30 minutes
- Subject to 4-10's, 5-10's, 6-10's, 7-10's and shift work (night and day).
