Role:
Sales engineers play a crucial and key role in our company by leading with the technical expertise of our products. They provide upfront solutions to gain market share prior to the project bidding and provide value engineering proposals on plans that are already out for bid. Their unique blend of technical and people skills will allow them to function as a bridge between the sales team and engineering professionals in the community. The role will require a deep understanding of both the product and the customer's needs and provide preliminary Work alongside sales representatives to sell technical products by understanding the design principles of our products.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Expertise: Sales engineers must have a deep understanding of the products they are selling. This includes the technical specifications, design principles, installation guidelines and potential liability/limitations.
- Customer Engagement: They engage with engineering professionals to understand their needs. This will involve onsite visits, product demonstrations, and technical discussions.
- Solution Development: By leveraging their technical knowledge, sales engineers will find solutions to meet the specific requirements of the customer.
- Sales Support: They will assist the sales team with preliminary design/technical input, submittals, cost estimates when needed, conducting presentations, and helping to close deals with contractors.
- Dealer Support: They will assist the Dealer Sales Team with preliminary design/technical input, submittals, cost estimates when needed, conducting presentations, and helping to close deals with Dealers.
- Training and Support: Provide preconstruction meetings onsite for the installation of our products, evaluation of products installed in the field, and if needed provide support when there may be a field issue onsite with the installation of our product.
Competencies:
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both high-level engineers and potentially a non-technical laborer in the field.
- Ability to translate technical information into clear and concise explanations.
- Successful at building strong relationships with both customers and internal teams. This involves active listening, empathy, and the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Experience presenting solutions to customers.
- Sales engineers must be skilled in using various presentation tools and techniques to convey the value of their solutions convincingly.
- Possess and maintain a high level of technical proficiency. This involves staying up to date with the latest developments in their field, understanding emerging technologies, being up to date on competitive products and being able to apply this knowledge to their sales efforts.
- Committed to continuous learning. This can involve formal training, attending industry conferences, or self-study.
- Effective problem-solving is at the heart of the sales engineer’s role.
- Ability to build and maintain credibility with both their customers and our sales teams.
Education:
- Civil Engineer degree required
- PE certification strongly desired
