Description

Position Overview:

The Service Manager is responsible for overseeing repair and setup work for customer machines and internal equipment. They manage staff performance, customer relations, invoicing, and the financial aspects of the service department. The role involves supervising technicians, managing customer complaints, and ensuring the service department runs smoothly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise staffing and training for technicians, manage internal department interactions, and handle after-hour assignments.
  • Review invoicing for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Resolve customer complaints promptly with a focus on delivering excellent service.
  • Acquire new business, provide repair quotes, and manage financial aspects.
  • Promote safety education and control workers' compensation expenses.
  • Supervise service truck fleet maintenance and inventory.
  • Handle warranty issues and resolve any concerns with manufacturers.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to operate a computer and sit for extended periods.
  • Supervise clerical and service repair tasks.
  • Drive to visit customers and vendors as needed.
  • Travel up to 6 times per year.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using computers and software programs.
  • Leadership, problem-solving, and performance management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a customer-first attitude.
  • Skills in planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks.
  • Knowledge of repair requirements, inventory management, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to market and acquire new business.

Education and Experience:

  • Required:
    • Two years of higher education.
    • 3-5 years of related experience (marketing, customer relations, machine setup and repairs, management).
    • Current, clean Driver’s License.

Key Performance Metrics for the Service Department:

  • Administration ratio, customer billing rate, gross margin, and expenses.
  • Technician performance measures like billing, expense hours, and rework.
