About this Role

A Substation Regional Construction Manager at Irby Construction acts as the backbone of the entire project. It is a position of great responsibility, requiring complete and thorough technical knowledge of the substation construction process and also, strongest possible focus on quality. This position will be the leader who conceptualizes the substation construction project, and is responsible for its smooth organization, implementation and completion, to the satisfaction of the customer. This position will also lead in executing a strategic plan, as it relates to substation construction, by establishing priorities and determining resource allocation for efficient and effective delivery of all substation construction projects.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee selection and coordination of subcontractors working on various phases of multiple projects.
  • Responsible for proper administration of substation construction contracts, and for obtaining all necessary permits and licenses.
  • Track and control substation construction schedules and associated costs to achieve completion of projects within time and monies allocated.
  • Report to senior management on progress and any necessary modifications of plans.
  • Strategic Planning – Work with senior leadership to develop long term plans for the organization around growth and development of substation construction capacity.
  • Manage staffing and schedules related to the day-to-day vertical substation construction aspects of projects.
  • Review progress reports, check on any reported difficulties, and correct any safety violations or other reported deficiencies.
  • Determine appropriate revenue recognition measures, ensure timely and accurate reporting of project costs, and monitor payables for project.
  • Understand basic revenue models, P/L, and cost-to-completion projections and make decisions accordingly.
  • Guarantee project legal documents, permits, inspections etc., are completed and signed.
  • Create long-term department plans and work with staff to create and adhere to individual annual and 90-day plans.
  • Work with the leadership to develop a cost-effective budget, schedule and tracking system for completion of multiple projects following a logical pattern for utilization of resources.
  • Bring about optimum utilization of resources- labor, materials and equipment, and ensure their procurement at most cost-effective terms.
  • Implement various operations through proper coordination.
  • Develop work plans and oversee substation construction staff responsible for overseeing project.
  • Monitor work for compliance with schedule, budget, quality, safety, and overall conformance with the contract documents.
  • Review contract documents and assists with procurement, pre-bid conferences, and evaluations.
  • Attend progress meetings, develops status reports, and delivers presentations as required.
  • Recommend policy and procedure improvements.
  • Assist in negotiating with customer regarding changes to design, construction work scope, and schedules.
  • Develop and implement a quality audit program, monitors corrective actions, and ensures a quality project conforming to plans and specifications.
  • Support Company’s safety vision and comply with all safety rules, policies, and procedures; maintain accountability for safety performance of subordinate personnel.
  • Oversee the substation construction project from start to finish.
  • Perform a key role in project planning, budgeting, and identification of resources needed.
  • Create teams and develops the objectives/goals of each and assigns individual responsibilities.
  • Project accounting functions including managing the budget, tracking if team expenses and minimizing exposure and risk in the project.
  • Ensure that construction activities move according to predetermined schedule.
  • Devise the project work plans and make revisions as and when need arises.
  • Communicate effectively with the Superintendents responsible for completing various phases of the project.

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum of ten (10) years combined experience in substation construction administration and management position in the activities which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Any other combination of educational or experience as deemed appropriate.
