Job Title: Supv Construction Projects
Position Function: Estimate and supervise construction projects ranging from minor improvements to major construction and remodel projects. Work with district administrators to design improvements at the buildings that will enhance the environment for student learning. Must maintain working knowledge of all applicable building codes, ADA and 504 regulations, and Fire and Life Safety codes. Participate in committee work to insure that facility goals are achieved during the implementation of the bond issue.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Meets with building administrators to translate building requests into useable building improvements
- Estimates and supervises construction of building improvements
- Meets with building administrators to translate requests for major remodel projects
- Supervises design development of the project including architectural and engineering drawings
- Prepares a comprehensive estimate for the project including securing bids from subcontractors and material quotes
- Secures all applicable building permits
- Prepares subcontracts, material orders, and distribute work orders for in-house crafts
- Conducts scheduling meetings
- Supervises all phases of the construction and customer move-in operation
- Reviews, estimates, and supervises all ADA and 504 construction projects
- Meets with all local fire department jurisdictions to review any Fire and Life Safety violations and take appropriate actions for correction
- Serves as the chairperson for School Service Center 504 committee
- Serves on the Bond Design Review Team and as chairperson on the Bond Construction Review Team
- Serves on the District Summer School implementation committee
- Serves on the District Safety committee
- Serves on the District Emergency Operations Team
- Be on call and coordinate repair efforts for off-hours emergencies at buildings
- Estimates and schedules interior and exterior painting for all of the District buildings
Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively and be detail and quality oriented as well as perform as an effective team leader in managing budgets, subcontractors, suppliers, and construction personnel to complete construction projects
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to communicate effectively
- Must have computer and construction estimating skills
- Must be able to operate in a multi-task environment and have the ability to plan and organize effectively
- Must schedule and prepare agendas for pre-construction meetings and Bond Construction Team meetings
- Must create line item budgets for construction projects, evaluate material and subcontract costs, establish and maintain project schedules and completion deadlines
- Exhibit a professional manner and a positive attitude
- Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet deadlines
- Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
- Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them
Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Qualification Profile:
- A High School Education or GED equivalent is required
- A minimum of one year WPS experience or a related field required
- Strong skills in all phases on construction and a working knowledge of the building codes, Life Safety and Fire codes, ADA and 504 regulations are essential for this position
- Autocad experience preferred, but not required
