Cleveland Thermal has provided steam heat to downtown Cleveland customers since 1894, adding chilled water in 1993. Today, our two district energy facilities supply residential, institutional, government, and commercial customers with a variety of sustainable steam and chilled water solutions.

About the Opportunity
As the owner and operator of district heating and cooling systems, our highest priority is to provide our customers with safe and reliable service. As the Energy Infrastructure Craftsman, you will be a key contributor to delivering these values to our customers. In this role you will:
- Know, practice and comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work being performed, and write Safe Job Procedures when requested and always work in a safe manner
- Train and work with assigned crew members, set-up on the jobsite to perform underground excavation and/or utility repairs and maintenance.
- Maintain construction equipment and vehicles as needed.
- Inspect, repair and document underground manholes and components
- Troubleshoot the essential functions of Distribution/HVAC including valves, traps, PRV’s, etc.
- Set a good example for other employees by adhering to the administrating Company policies.
- Quickly respond to emergency call outs and handle emergencies in a calm and professional manner.
- Inspect Company vehicles prior to operation to maintain safe operation and avoid trouble and delays during scheduled work.
- Report steam and chilled water leaks, damaged manhole castings or any other issue that may be a Company liability.
- Notify Plant Operators prior to operating steam and chilled water valves.
- Immediately report equipment safety and make immediate repairs when feasible.
- Assume duties of the Energy Infrastructure Lead when directed.
- Provide Energy Infrastructure Manager with daily reports, vehicle inspections, confined space entries, manhole inspections and logs.
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace including vehicle, shop and job site.
- Present a good image of the Company when dealing with visitors, customers and vendors.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance.
Who You Are
- Graduated with High School Diploma or GED.
- Has a minimum of two (2) years of safe, underground utility construction experience.
- Has previous vehicle and equipment maintenance/mechanical experience
- Preferred, two (2) years’ experience working in district energy or equivalent outside construction experience and proficient in at least one of the following specialty areas or be willing to obtain:
- Heavy Equipment - capable of running and operating heavy construction equipment
- Welding/Fitting - 6G certified with two (2) years hands-on experience or equivalent outside experience. Must be fully capable of final field fit ups including compound miters.
- Distribution/HVAC- Good working knowledge of all distribution essential functions including, but not limited to valves, traps, steam and chilled water controls, etc. Must also possess the ability to troubleshoot and repair minor building HVAC problems.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Be willing and able to work call-outs, overtime, rotating shifts, holidays and weekends at any Company location as needed. Be willing to carry Company cell phone when requested.
- Ability to recognize safety issues and respond to prevent injury.
- Ability to react quickly, think clearly, make decision and remain calm in emergency situations.
- Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize activities.
- Ability to operate, blowers, pumps, air compressors, jack hammers, power equipment and manual transmission vehicles.
- Ability to read, understand and apply information from blueprints and schematics.
- Ability to work as a team.
- Recognition of customers’ needs and requirements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of personnel in stressful situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally, electronically and in writing; understanding and following written or verbal instruction.
