As the VP, Data Center Preconstruction, you will lead the strategic planning and execution of pre-construction activities for a portfolio of data center projects. This role requires deep expertise in design, construction, procurement, scheduling, contracting and cost management to ensure seamless project execution from inception to construction. You will collaborate with key stakeholders to develop standardized processes, drive efficiencies, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
The position requires a high degree of energy, passion, outgoing personality, technical competence and integrity. The person will interact daily with Prologis data center, development, and deployment teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive pre-construction strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, budget, and timelines.
- Lead feasibility studies, site evaluations, and risk assessments to optimize project planning.
- Oversee design development, ensuring alignment with operational needs, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability standards.
- Establish and refine standardized pre-construction processes to drive efficiency and scalability.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, engineers, general contractors, and regulatory bodies, to drive project success.
- Serve as the OFCI vendor and regulatory body escalation point for all pre-construction issues, resolving challenges proactively.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Oversee cost estimation, budgeting, procurement and program strategies to optimize financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, building codes, and environmental and safety standards.
- Work closely with supply chain and legal teams to establish efficient contracting structures.
- Provide executive-level reporting on project forecasts, risk assessments, and key performance metrics.
Building blocks for success
- 10+ years of experience in construction, design, or engineering, with a focus on pre-construction and large-scale data center projects.
- Proven track record in leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing pre-construction activities for complex, high-value projects.
- Experience in data center design and construction process, including greenfields and retrofits.
- Ability to travel, as necessary, to projects
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Professional licensure (Registered Architect or PE) preferred.
- Strong commercial acumen with expertise in cost estimation, procurement strategies, and contract negotiation.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, building codes, and sustainability standards within the data center industry.
- Computer proficiency: MS Project, Google Earth, ACAD viewer (in addition to general Microsoft tools).
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Self-motivated and ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal direction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Promote a positive, can-do attitude with a real focus on Customer satisfaction, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Hiring Salary Range of: $192,000 - $264,000. Salary to be determined by the candidate’s location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This role is also eligible for Prologis’ commission plan.
