TITLE: YouthBuild Construction Instructor
REPORTS TO: YouthBuild Program Director
Location: Oak Cliff
FLSA Status: EXEMPT
SUMMARY: The YouthBuild Construction Instructor will work with underrepresented youth aged 16-24 at various training and construction sites in the Dallas area. The primary role of this position is to train/certify students via the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum and equip students with hands-on vocational skills that lead to employment, apprenticeships, and post-secondary education opportunities. The Instructor will be a role model while assisting with building/remodeling/refurbishing low-income housing that meets all regulations/requirements. The YouthBuild Construction Instructor will ensure that YouthBuild participants learn key construction skills while working on real construction projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Facilitates daily/weekly schedule with YouthBuild Director to implement programming
• Assist in the development and delivery of a core curriculum. Delivers NCCER-certified curriculum to students in a classroom, hands-on workshop setting, and various locations.
• Develops lesson plans and adapts teaching methods to meet diverse student learning styles and needs. Provides feedback on curriculum improvements.
• Provides instruction in safety, tools and materials, construction techniques, and industry best practices.
• Follows and adheres to the request for proposal for worksites and assists in developing memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with partner agencies.
• Uses technology to teach classes and potentially implement virtual coursework as needed.
• Administers NCCER module tests and performance evaluations following NCCER guidelines.
• Maintains accurate records of student attendance, progress, and certification achieved;
• Fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages growth and engagement.
• Mentors and guides students to develop skills, confidence, and readiness for the construction industry

Education and Experience
• Associate degree (or 60 credit hours completed) OR High School Diploma/HSE with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the Construction field
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively with young adults from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to lift and move materials commonly used in construction training
• Proficiency in maintaining records and using basic computer applications
• National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification or ability to obtain certification
• OSHA-10 & OSHA-30 certifications or ability to obtain them
• Previous teaching, mentoring, or training experience
• Exceptional written communication and presentation skills.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask to meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
• Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency is strongly preferred.
• Travel and willingness to work flexible hours are required.
• Current driver's license, with a clean driving record.
