CONSTRUCTION TECHNICIAN

9 months; Monday - Friday 7am-3:30pm
$21.60 /hour for 90-day probationary period; then $24.00

PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO THE TEACHER AND HOME BUILDERS’ ASSOCIATION BY
• Supervising and instructing small groups of students in layout work, framing, stairs, roofing, siding, masonry, drywall hanging and taping, windows, hanging doors, trim out, flooring, concrete work, painting, electrical and all aspects of finishing a new residential home.
• Training students in appropriate use and maintenance of tools
• Monitoring student safety regarding site conditions, ladder and scaffolding, overhead dangers, ground conditions and other potential dangers
PREPARES FOR HOME BUILDING BY
• Inventorying and purchasing materials
• Securing supplies, tools, equipment and building materials
• Maintaining all tools and tool repair
PROVIDES CLERICAL ASSISTANCE BY
• Preparing and coding invoices and statements for the Home Builders’ Association
• Maintaining records of distribution of tools and equipment needing repair
• Maintaining all inventories of supplies and equipment
Employees supervise students in the classroom and at the construction site.
To perform this job successfully, the employee must be able to perform almost all tasks associated with new residential construction, and be able to teach students those same skills.- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Five years experience at the Journeyman level of carpenter or skilled tradesman;
- Valid driver’s license;
- Special knowledge, advanced skills and abilities in the construction trade; carpentry; electrical; plumbing; painting; drywall; concrete form and flat work; sheet metal; transit; blueprint reading; and operating a school bus.
The physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include standing, walking, bending, sitting, lifting (with assistance) up to 100 pounds and driving.
